TURKISH SOCCER WEEKLY COLUMN BY AHMET TURGUT

Week 25: REVIEW

BESIKTAS CLOSED THE WEEK WITH A WIN!
After Fener won in Bursa , this was very important match for Besiktas. The opponent Erciyesspor was also desperate for point and points. The match played with no fans in the stadium because of banned by Turkish soccer federation. Besiktas's only goal scored in 73nth minute by Nobre Mert.with a win the gap between Besiktas and Fener stayed at 6 points. That's why we just can't say clearly ,Fenerbahce will win the leagues top spot yet. Next nine weeks will be rough ride for Fenerbahce and Besiktas. I don't see Galatasaray as a contender for the top spot anymore. The lost of points in Konya, cost Galatasaray,in my opinion.
ERSUN YANAL RESIGNED?!
After His assistant coach punched the referee during the yesterday's match, we have herd Ersun Yanal will call a quits with Vestel Manispor. Incident was disaster for Turkish soccer in general and Vestel Manisspor.
FENERBAHCE OPENS UP THE GAP!
Fenerbahce have opened up a nine-point gap at the top of the Turkish Super League with a 4-0 thrashing of Bursaspor away from home. With Galatasaray held to a 2-2 draw by Konyaspor on Friday evening , Fener took full advantage as Alex De Souza (2), Mateja Kezman and Deniz Baris all found the net in the second half.At the other end of the table, there were disturbing scenes as relegation-threatened Manisaspor hosted basement club Sakaryaspor. The game was abandoned after 37 minutes as the players effectively hounded the referee off the field in reaction to a booking. The score was 0-0 at the time, but the authorities seem certain to take action over the incident.Kayserispor missed the chance to move level on points with third-placed Besiktas as they squandered a 3-0 first-half lead to draw 4-4 with lowly Antalyaspor in a thrilling encounter.Kayserispor seemed to be cruising as goals from Gokhan Unal and Mehmet Topuz (2) fired them into a 3-0 lead after half an hour. However, Coskun Birdal quickly got a goal back for the visitors before the break. Then, three goals in 12 minutes turned the game on its head as Birdal, Ali Bilgan and Birdal again struck to make it 4-3 Antalyaspor, leaving the hosts to rely on Unal's 89th-minute equaliser to get anything at all from the game.Kayserispor at least avoided dropping a place in the table as fifth-placed Genclerbirligi went down 3-2 against 10-man Denizlispor.Goals from Serhat Gulpinar and Roman Kratochvil (2) did the trick for the hosts as they survived the 80th-minute dismissal of Fatih Egedik.Engin Baytar and Mehmet Cakir got the goals for Genclerbirligi.Ankaraspor beat Sivasspor 2-1 as the visitors had Servet Cetin sent off, Gaziantepspor edged out Caykur Rizespor 1-0 and Ankaragucu were 1-0 winners at Trabzonspor.
GALATASARAY THROTTLE IN KONYA!...
A late strike by substitute Cedric Sabin denied Galatasaray the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Fenerbahce in the Turkish Turkcell Super League after being held to a 2-2 draw at Konyaspor.
With the leaders due to travel to Bursaspor on Saturday, the defending champions had an ideal opportunity to close the gap to just four points, but Sabin had the final say for the hosts.
Earlier, his team-mate Joao Neca had put the home team ahead after just eight minutes, but the visitors hit back two minutes later through Sasa Ilic (10).Hasan Kabze (51) then handed the lead to the visitors shortly after half time, but just when they looked to have wrapped up the game, Sabin (87) gave the home crowd something to celebrate.

Besiktas and Galatasaray secured Turkcell Super League wins on Sunday evening to keep up the pressure on Turkish leaders Fenerbahce.

At the other end of the table, Caykur Rizespor put some daylight between themselves and the drop zone thanks to a 3-1 win over Manisaspor.Manispor have only one point in the last seven games.that is disaster!
First-half strikes from Ibrahim Said (8) and Altan Aksoy (36) put the home side in command at the break, with Filip Holosko (52) giving the visitors some hope before substitute Anderson Dos Santos sealed matters on the stroke of full-time. Erciyesspor remain in the relegation zone but leapfrog second-bottom Denizlispor after a 2-0 win over their fellow strugglers. Zdravko Lazarov set Erciyesspor on their way with a 34th-minute penalty and substitute Daouda Jabi made sure of the points 12 minutes from time.
The mid-table battle between Antalyaspor and Ankaraspor ended in a 1-1 draw.
Coskun Birdal gave the home team a 36th-minute lead only for substitute Murat Tosun to earn his side a share of the spoils 14 minutes from time.

"FENERBAHCE FAMILY FUED" ON LIVE TV PROGRAM!..
WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.....
On Wednesday night Fenerbahce Chairman Aziz Yıldırım was making a series of interesting remarks during a live broadcast on ATV's "Center Circle Special" program, but tensions rose when former executive board member Sadettin Saran called the program in response to Yıldırım's statements about him.
During the program, after Aziz Yildirim, mentioned Sadettin Saran's name("I could have changed 120 administrators if I so desired. No one who left has said anything that has tainted our club, with the exception of Sadettin Saran and Tahir Kılan -- they have hurt our club."), Saran, after calling the program to respond to Yıldırım's statements, said: "Aziz Yıldırım can't respond to a question about the Spartak Moscow chairman receiving money from Fenerbahce. The chairman of a club has to be able to give an account of everything. He's making me a target of accusations as well remaining silent on this matter. The Spartak chairman admitted that he received money; however, the signature didn't belong to him. … I was sent to the disciplinary committee based on the statement of an employee who had been working with us for nine months -- Aziz Yıldırım should have an have to answer for all this ..."
Also, during the program, Aziz Yildirim had harsh words to Turkish Soccer Federation chief Haluk Ulusoy.
"We had decided [among Trabzonspor's Atay Aktug, Besiktas' Yıldırım Demiroren, Galatasaray's Ozhan Canaydın and myself] that we would not sign players from Anatolian clubs and openly stated this to the public. They chose to renege on their promises, which made me look like the bad guy -- but I have the full intention of serving my term until the congress in 2009."
Drawing attention the double standards implemented by the Turkish Soccer Federation (TFF), Yıldırım commented: "Because [federation chief Haluk] Ulusoy and I are at loggerheads, people who have ties with him are being influenced by our conflict. Ulusoy had said that once elected he would only perform his duties, without fear or favor, and stay out of everything else. However, the last six weeks witnessed late-night negotiations about the fate of the upcoming league matches."

TURKISH SOCCER WEEKLY COLUMN BY AHMET TURGUT

WEEK 23: REVIEW...
Fenerbahce miss opportunity to wide point deficit
Turkish Super League leaders Fenerbahce have missed on opportunity to wide the point gap between archrivals when they were held a 2-2 draw with indomitable Sivasspor at home.
Fenerbahce entertained Sivasspor in a packed Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Sunday, a day after their city rivals Besiktas edged out another city rivals Galatasaray at home.
Although the hosts took the lead in 15th minute with a header from energetic Tuncay, the visitors leveled four minutes later when Gokhan found the net a flashing free-kick. Ex-Fener defender Servet headed a corner-kick into the net of his former team eight minutes from the first half, giving a 2-1 lead to the visitors.
Hosts stepped up pressure in the second half and right-winger Mehmet Yozgatli, substitute for Aurelio, equalized in 67th with a distant strike. In 70th, Brazilian playmaker Alex hit the post and hit woodwork once more three minutes later. And the leaders dropped two more points following a loss to Antalyaspor last week in away, once again missing the chance to open an eight-point gap with closest competitors.
BESIKTAS MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE!...
A late Luis Ricardinho penalty helped Besiktas sink Galatasaray 2-1 and leapfrog their opponents into second place in the table.Emre Asik seemed to have salvaged a point for the visitors with his 63rd-minute effort after Besiktas had taken a 32nd-minute lead through Division Bobo.
But Brazilian Ricardinho made no mistake from the spot with just six minutes remaining to send Galatasaray home empty-handed.Also on Saturday, Denizli beat Ankaragucu at home 1-0 . League's surprise team Kayserispor who is on fourth and has same points with Today's derby match Loser Galatasaray. They both have 38 points. League's new second place team Besiktas has 39 points. Five behind league Leader Fenerbahce before Sunday important match against Sivasspor at Kadikoy.
Fenerbahce has to win on Sunday otherwise They will jeopardize their run for the top spot. Sivasspor could be really dangerous with Pini Balili. He has speed and technic to score goals. Fenerbahce defense will have hard time with Balili on Sunday,in my opinion. Sivasspor is also coach my Their former player Bulent. Can he pull what Galatasay former captain pulled against his former team in the Fortis Turkish cup?.... We will see!....
SUPER SATURDAY IN THE TURKCELL SUPER LEAGUE!...
TO BE OR NOT TO BE TIME FOR GALATASAY AND BESIKTAS!
IT IS CRUNCH TIME FOR BOTH TEAMS............................
The most important match of the week will take place on Saturday .The game between Besiktas and Galatasaray on Saturday is very critical for both teams. Winner will gain ....loser will danger their bit to the top spot.
Besiktas will host defending Champions Galatasaray at İnönu Stadium this evening in the first İstanbul derby of the season's second half.
EVERYTHING ON THE LINE!
Galatasaray is second with 38 points and Besiktas third with 36. This means that if the Eagles win they would move to second, while defending champions Galatasaray Lions would drop to third. that's why everthing will be on the line...
Elsewhere on Saturday, relegation-threatened Denizlispor Roosters host Ankaragücü and Kayserispor locks horns with Caykur Rizespor, another relegation candidate. Both matches kick off at 2 p.m. Turkey time
