Besiktas too strong for Rapid Wien

Besiktas came from behind to record a second successive win in Europa League Group L with a 2-1 victory over Rapid Wien.

Young Turkish players who plays for Rapid,Veli Kavlak, gave Rapid Vienna the lead but Filip Holosko - a first-half substitute for the injured Ricardo Quaresma - quickly equalised.

And Bobo grabbed the winner for Besiktas - who won their first game against CSKA Sofia courtesy of a last-minute goal - were victorious once more.

Besiktas started the brighter and Fabian Ernst shot over before Quaresma hit the upright with a curling effort from the left of the penalty area.

Stefan Hoffman skied Rapid's first effort over the bar and Christopher Trimmel followed suit before Quaresma's evening was ended early by injury, Holosko taking his place in the 32nd minute.

The newcomer's corner saw Matteo Ferrari draw a sharp save from Raimund Hedl, who then held Rodrigo Tabata's 25-yard effort.

Rapid picked up the pace at the start of the second period, with Atdhe Nuhiu firing wide before Kavlak broke the deadlock.

Yasin Pehlivan's cross was thumped home by his midfield colleague to give the hosts the advantage in the 51st minute - and Nuhiu almost added a second when his effort was punched clear by goalkeeper Hakan Arikan.

But, as it transpired, the lead would last just four minutes as Holosko found the net with a low left-footed finish from the left side of the box - and he hit the bar moments later as Besiktas pressed forward.

Nuhiu headed over at the other end, but Besiktas soon had the lead as Rodrigo Tabata played in Bobo, who finished coolly in the 64th minute.

Rapid introduced veteran striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in their search for an equaliser and Hoffman's free-kick was headed over by Hamdi Salihi before Arikan saved from the Dutchman's header.

But Rapid were unable to get back on terms as Besiktas joined Porto with a perfect six-point record ahead of the two teams' upcoming double-header.

Latest news on Quaresma, he definitely wont play agaisnt Trabzonspor this weekend .

According to reports he could be out with injury for three to four weeks,,,,,

EKREM DAG: BESIKTAS MEAN BUSINESS

Besiktas' Austria international Ekrem Dag has warned the Turkish club expect to claim all three points from their Europa League trip to Rapid Vienna on Thursday.

Besiktas are in good form at present having gone unbeaten in six games in a run that included a 1-0 success over CSKA Sofia in their Group L opener a fortnight ago.

By contrast Rapid have struggled since they produced the shock of the final qualification round when they dumped out Aston Villa.

The capital club lost four consecutive games before their late 3-2 win over struggling Kapfenberg at the weekend.

They were also thrashed 3-0 in the Europa League opener by Porto and Dag, who will sit out the match with a toe injury, expects his visiting team to secure victory.

"We normally should win. The quality of our squad is very high," said Dag, who made his Austria debut earlier this year.

"A club with such a strong squad must make clear the only goal can be to make it into the knockout stage.

"Besiktas come to Vienna not to take one but three points. But we must not underestimate Rapid because they pulled off something extraordinary by kicking out Aston Villa."

Besiktas should be boosted by the return of veteran playmaker Guti, who missed the weekend's 2-1 win over Antalyaspor, while tricky Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma is also set to start after only coming on as a substitute against CSKA.

Rapid boss Peter Pacult is wary of the star names in the visiting line-up, but believes his side will face an easier task than their opener away to Porto.

"At Besiktas there are many quality players, but we will be playing in front of a sell-out crowd and that will help us step up our game," he said.

"When we went to Porto you could see that other nations are more secure on the ball, more peaceful than us.

"But Porto is certainly a step up from Besiktas."

Speaking about the possible return of former Real Madrid midfielder Guti, he added: "Physically he may not be the player that he once was, but his key strength is his eye for certain situations.

"Even if he is not the youngest, his quality is indisputable."

Rapid will still be without their own playmaker with Markus Heikkinen still recovering from meningitis while Stefan Kulovits is a doubt with an ankle injury.

Rangers v Bursaspor 1-0 Highlights

Rangers at home beat Turkey's Bursaspor. with Steven Naismith's lone goal, 1-0 .

This was their first Champions League success in three long years.

On th other hand Bursaspor still looking for their first point and goal in the Champions League.

Bursaspor in their first Champions League campaign, are already cast in the role of whipping boys and Naismith's 18th minute strike looks to have largely confirmed the group as a three-horse race for qualification.

Bursapor rarely threatened, with their final glimmer of hope being a dangerously-positioned free kick in the last seconds that was easily cleared by the staunch Rangers defense.

Sercan Yildirim was the closest to finding an equaliser with a volley that flew just wide of Allan McGregor's goal.

Bursaspor suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to Valencia in their first ever Champions League match and with no points from their opening two games, their hopes of progression are undeniably bleak already.

Coach Ertugrul Saglam, feels his side are showing signs that they can be quick learners at this level.

"Our second-half performance is an indication of how we're able to perform in this competition.

"We're a very inexperienced team and it's our first time in Europe for about 30 years but we are starting to find the rhythm of the Champions League."

Bursaspor will not were Celtic uniform!

No green-and-white hooped strip, uniforms for Bursaspor at Ibrox...

Bursaspor coach Ertugrul Saglam will not inflame the situation ahead of their Champions League clash at Rangers.

Bursaspor will not wear their green-and-white hooped strip, similar to that of the Govan club's Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Instead, the visitors will settle for an 'Ajax style' outfit in the club's traditional colours.

Coach of Bursaspor Ertugrul Saglam said: "We we will wear our Ajax-type strip, the same as we did against Valencia.

"We expect to see controlled aggression from our players but there is no need to increase tension in important matches such as this.

"Last year, we didn't win only the league title but also the Fair Play league. We believe in those principles.

"We want to play hard and play to the maximum with controlled aggression, but without any unnecessary provocation. That is our way."

On the other hand, Rangers manager Walter Smith insists Bursaspor should not be written off simply because they are one of the lesser known teams in the Champions League this season.

Smith said,"If we were playing Galatasaray or Fenerbahce or Besiktas, then everyone would say it would be a really difficult game. Bursaspor have shown to be better than those sides over the last year or so and that's the standard they are at."

He also said, "They lost their first game at home to Valencia, I watched the game and it wasn't a game that you would say was a 4-0 game."
