Fenerbahce win in UCL qualifiers debut

Fenerbahce defeated MTK Budapest 2-0 in first-leg, second round game at the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Daniel Guiza couldn't score a goal in Fenerbahce SK 2-0 win over MTK Budapest at UCL qualifiers.

Fenerbahce should have got a wider score since they had at least thirty clear goal chances to defeat a weak Hungarian team. The team had a convincing performance despite some slight changes in the lineup

It is more than evident that coach Luis Aragones forced his players to improve cross, though they are a little bit used to do it because of the many Brazilian players in the team.

Spaniard striker Dani Güiza is well aware his transfer was the most expensive in Turkish soccer history, so he did his best to approach the opponent's goal; although he scored on goal during friendly game against Ucrania's Shakhtar Donesk, it seems he feels compelled to justify such an investment.

According to the game shown on the pitch, Fenerbahce goals would not take long in being celebrated: at minute 16, Roberto Carlos opened the score, then Selcuk Sahin scored the second goal at the 59th minute.

IT IS OFFICIAL!.....Fernando Meira joins Galatasaray!...

Turkish giants Galatasaray have added another player to their squad as defender Fernando Meira will be spending the next four seasons at the club.

Recently it was revealed that Meira was on his way out at German side VfB Stuttgart, where he played the last six and a half seasons.

Galatasaray have been working hard to improve their selection for the coming season.

Did Galatasaray sign Fernando Meira ?....

Earlier, in this blog, according to Turkish media and Galatasaray officials announcements, I thought Galatasaray really signed Fernando Meira .

But it turns out the deal is not done yet!...

According to British media, Stuggart claim Tottenham have moved for Meira!....

Stuttgart sports director Horst Heldt has stated that Tottenham are the only club to have contacted the club about the portugese defender.

"Up until now, only Tottenham have contacted us," Heldt told Stuttgarter Zeitung.

"We have only learned from the media about the alleged interest from Galatasaray and Panathinaikos. "

If this is Truth, it will be another disaster for Turkish media and Galatasaray team.

Fernando Meira signs with Galatasaray

Galatasaray signed a deal with Portuguese player Fernando Meira for three years

Galatasaray administrator Haldun Üstünel said,“We are working to transfer players who will contribute to the team. We have agreed on all issues with Meira,”

Galatasaray coach Skibbe under pressure

Galatasaray coach Michael Skibbe finds himself under pressure as the strikers and defense players he sought on his first day with the club have not yet been transferred.

The German coach stressed that they have to replace the positions normally filled by former striker Hakan Sukur and defense player Rigobert Song as soon as possible.

Skibbe is also concerned at not having Galatasaray’s Turkish national team players, who have been on break since Euro 2008, at the team’s training camp. For this reason he invited the players of the under-20 squad to the training sessions of the senior team.

The young coach was relieved when the national players and new transfer from Liverpool Harry Kewell participated in Galatasaray’s training camp in Antalya on July 11. However difficult days lie ahead for the German coach, as Servet Cetin, Hasan Sas and Emre Gungor, who were in the first 11 last year, remain on the injured list. Another obstacle Skibbe faces is the fact that he only has Hakan Balta, Emre Asik, Sabri Sarioğlu to play defense.

As a result, he finds himself unable to run a successful training camp prior to the Champions League elimination match on Aug. 11.

After Skibbe explained that the players to be transferred should be with the team at the training camp as soon as possible, Galatasaray General Manager Adnan Sezgin said they were about to end the search for new signings, adding: “Transferring good players is not easy, but hopefully we will announce at least one or two transfers next week.”

Galatasaray, which has long been looking for a defense player due to problems with its defense block, has received bad news from Australian Lucas Neill, who decided against coming to Turkey at the last minute.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Galatasaray is interested in Besiktas’s Ibrahim Toraman, who was relegated from the Besiktas squad after a confrontation with the team’s captain, Ibrahim Uzulmez.

ROBERTO CARLOS TO CHELSEA?

According to British media report Roberto Carlos who plays for Fenerbahce ,is winking to move to Chelsea....

Roberto Carlos has told Chelsea he would be ‘very attracted’ if they were to come knocking for his services.

Carlos was a key part of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup-winning Brazilian side back in 2002 and, after the arrival of Deco, it appears the new Blues boss is keen to recruit one or two faces he has worked with in the past.

Furthermore, following the capture of Jose Bosingwa – as well as Deco - Scolari seems intent on signing players who have experience of winning The Champions League, a trophy Carlos has won three times.

The 35-year-old admits he is yet to be contacted by a Chelsea official, but he would be interested should they seek his signature.

“I am content at Fenerbahce, but I am a man who likes challenges and a move to Chelsea would be very attractive,” said Roberto Carlos in the Daily Star.

“I understand that Felipe wants people with him who he has confidence in and who he knows.

“As yet I have not spoken to him since he has arrived at Chelsea.”

Fenerbahce sign Spain striker Guiza

Real Mallorca have confirmed striker Dani Guiza has left the club to join Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The 27-year-old joined Mallorca from Primera Liga rivals Getafe last summer and netted 27 goals last season to finish as the leading scorer in the Primera Liga.

That form helped the striker win a place in Spain's successful Euro 2008 squad under coach Luis Aragones, who will be his new boss at Fener.

Guiza will travel to Istanbul on Monday to put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Turkish side.

Neither club disclosed details of the transfer fee for the former Getafe frontman, who netted his first two international goals at the European Championships as Spain secured the country's first major trophy for 44 years.

Guiza netted in the group game against Greece and the semi-final triumph over Russia en
route to glory in Austria.

KEWELL : ´GALATASARAY MOVE NOT DISRESPECTFUL´

New Galatasaray signing Harry Kewell has defended his move to Istanbul, stressing it is not disrespectful to the two Leeds fans who were killed in the city eight years ago.

On Saturday the former Liverpool winger´s transfer to the Turkish club was confirmed, sparking criticism that he should have considered the deaths of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight prior to their UEFA Cup semi-final with Galatasaray in 2000.

"My love and respect for Leeds United and what the club has done for me will never change, no matter what anyone says about me and whatever their motives are," said Kewell in an open letter to Leeds fans, sent to Sky Sports.

Blatter: Dogan's legacy will live on

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has praised Hasan Dogan's contribution to football in a heartfelt letter after learning of his sudden death on Saturday.

The president of the Turkey FA suffered a heart attack during a lunchtime meeting with national team coach Fatih Terim and TFF board member Levent Kazil in Mugla and later died in hospital. He was 52.

His death came just over a week after Turkey's run to the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2008 and has left the FIFA President shocked and saddened by the news. However, Blatter believes that Dogan's legacy to the game of football will live on.

He wrote: "We will remember his vast experience and know-how, his determination to develop the game as well as his unique personality. Being a thorough idealist Hasan Dogan managed to position not only Turkish club football but also the Turkish national team on an international level in only a few months at the helm of the TFF.

"We will retain fond memories of an accomplished leader and an extraordinary man whose great human qualities ensured that he left an indelible mark on the game of football, not only in helping to develop football in Turkey but also around the world.".

Dogan was elected to the presidency of the TFF in February having previously worked as vice-president between 2004 and 2006. Flags at the home of FIFA in Zurich will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Turkey mourns as it bids farewell to its football federation chief

Hasan Dogan, the head of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), who died of a heart attack at the weekend, was laid to rest in Istanbul on Monday.

A ceremony was held to commemorate Dogan at the TFF facilities in Istanbul's Levent district. Hundreds, including many statesmen and sportsmen, attended the ceremony.

He was laid to rest after a funeral ceremony at Fatih Mosque.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan were among the attendees in the funeral ceremony.

Dogan, 52, died on Saturday after suffering a heart attack while holidaying in the southwest of Turkey. He was having a meal with national coach Fatih Terim in the popular resort of Bodrum when he was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Dogan, a prominent businessman, had been the head of the federation since February this year and last month saw the national team make it to the semi-finals of the Euro 2008 championships for the first time ever.

Dogan leaves behind a wife and two children.

WHO IS HASAN DOGAN?
Doğan, born in Kastamonu in 1956, was a graduate of mechanical engineering from Yıldız Technical University. He studied English in the United Kingdom, and worked in marketing before founding his own men's wear company in 1988. He was also a member of the Turkish Olympic Committee, or TMOK. Doğan served as president of the TFF for five months, having been elected to the post in February. Previously he had been vice president under Levent Bıçakcı between 2004 and 2006. His death comes little over a week after Turkey's superb run at EURO 2008 culminated in a thrilling semifinal against Germany.

WHO WILL TAKE HIS PLACE?..
Following Doğan's death, the TFF will now have to convene an emergency congress to elect a new chief. Article 7 of the TFF law stipulates that in case of death or resignation of the TFF president, a vice chairman or, if there are no vice chairmen, one of the board members becomes the acting president responsible for holding new elections in three months' time. Until the election, Lütfi Arıboğan or Mahmut Özgener will be the acting president.

Lucas Neill to Galatsaray?

Lucas Neill may follow Harry Kewell to Turkish giants Galatasaray, with reports the club is set to launch a massive bid for the West Ham defender.

Neill, who has taken the captain’s armband since joining West Ham from Blackburn, is on a bumper contract at the club worth around $170,000 a week.

But England’s Daily Mail newspaper reports the Hammers need to cut their wage bill, and could sell Neill after recruiting 17-year-old Icelandic defender Homar Orn Eyjolfsson.

The Mail suggests Galatasaray will launch a bid for Neill, but the player’s Australian agent Paddy Dominguez says Neill is unlikely to leave West Ham.

“It doesn’t make sense that a manager who brought Lucas to the club and has installed him as captain would look to sell him,” Dominguez told The Australian.

“It would be very strange. Lucas’ relationship with Alan Curbishley is good and he is relishing the role of captain.”

Meanwhile, more light has been shed on the reasons behind Kewell’s move to Galatasaray, which raised eyebrows after the attacking midfielder rejected offers from English Premier League club Portsmouth and Italian club Roma.

Kewell’s manager Bernie Mandic indicated the other clubs – also reported to include Scotland’s Celtic and Spain’s Valencia – had only offered contracts with specific injury clauses.

Kewell’s career has been dogged by injury since his switch from Leeds United to Liverpool in 2003.

“Galatasaray is the best club for him,” Mandic told News Limited. “Other clubs who were chasing him put up ridiculous health conditions.”

ARAGONES TALKS TO TEAM OFFICIAL MAHMUT USLU......

Former Spain coach Luis Aragones had a three-hour meeting with Fenerbahce officials on Friday.

Aragones is expected to finalize a two-year coaching contract with Fenerbahce ahead of an official signing ceremony on Saturday.

The 69-year-old Aragones also toured the Istanbul club's Sukru Saracoglu stadium.

"I will direct the matches in the best possible way with calm," the club's official Web site quoted Aragones as saying. "As Fenerbahce, we are aiming to win all of the titles in all competitions."

Vicente del Bosque is expected to take over Spain after Aragones' decision to leave despite leading the country to the European Championship title, its first major trophy in 44 years.

Kewell joins Galatasaray!....

KEWELL IS IN ISTANBUL......

Australia international Harry Kewell has signed a three-year contract with Turkish champions Galatasaray, the club have claimed.

However, there remains some confusion over the conclusion of the deal as Kewell's agent Bernie Mandic has said the announcement is premature.

The 29-year-old turned down a contract offer with Liverpool in May and entered the current transfer window as a free agent, with many clubs across Europe chasing his services.

Kewell was linked with Portsmouth, Fulham, Celtic and Roma but Galatasaray have announced his signing on their website.

Mandic, though, insists that nothing has been finalised.

'We have not finalised a deal for Harry and it's down to two possibilities,' he told Australian FourFourTwo.

'People will be notified if and when Harry decides on one of the options which may be around noon on Saturday European time.

'We will not make any other comments until then.'

Fenerbahce to play MTK in CL qualifying

Fenerbahce football(soccer) club will play Hungary's MTK Budapest in the second qualifying round in the UEFA Champions League.

Last season's quarterfinalist Fenerbahce was drawn Tuesday to begin its 2008-09 Champions League campaign against Hungarian champion MTK.

A total of 42 clubs from across Europe were included in the draw for the first two qualifying rounds of the continent's most prestigious club competition.

Fenerbahce was one of the most glamorous names in Friday's draw after finishing second in the Turkish league last season and reaching the last eight of the Champions League for the first time.

It lost 3-2 on aggregate against eventual runner-up Chelsea, and said last week it had reached an agreement with Spain's European Championship-winning coach Luis Aragones, after former Brazil international Zico left the club last month.

"We are stronger than all teams in the second qualifying round," Sekip Mosturoglu, vice-president of Fenerbahce soccer club, was quoted by the Anatolian Agency as saying.

Mosturolgu said he believed that Fenerbahce would advance to the next round.

Fenerbahce will play the first leg at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul against MTK on July 29 or 30 before traveling to Budapest for the return. The Hungarians were entered direct into the second round.

A third qualifying round is played in August when club's who finished third and fourth last season in Europe's biggest leagues will join the competition.

FATIH TERIM WILL STAY !...

HOT.....HOT ...NEWS!......

Turkish Football Federation President Hasan Dogan said Fatih Terim will be the coach of Turkish National Team until 2012 .

Turkish Federation chairman Hasan Dogan said on Tuesday he had proposed the two-year contract extension in a meeting with Terim ahead of a federation board meeting.
"He accepted our proposal, thanking us for the trust in him and saying he was happy to be coach of the national team and that work with the management was harmonious,"

After Turkey lost to Germany in their Euro 2008 semi-final, Terim said he would probably step down.

Now, I wonder what his British agentMel Goldberg will say about this?....

I wonder if Fatih Terim talked to Mr. Goldberg about this?...

These are the questions should answered by Fatih Terim and Federation in my opinion.

Lastly, I am the only one in the Turkish Media reported that Fatih Terim signed a contract with Mel Goldberg's sport management agency before the Euro 2008 Tournament.

Turkish Media was sleeping on this news!....
