GALATASARAY SHINES WITH HAKAN SUKUR....

Panionios 0 Galatasaray 3 Hakan Sukur breathed new life into Galatasaray's UEFA Cup campaign with a virtuoso display as the Turkish giants claimed victory over 10-man Panionios in Athens.

The veteran Turkey striker came off the bench at half-time to inspire his team and rounded off the scoring with a superb header to earn Karl-Heinz Feldkamp's side their first points of their Group H bid following two straight defeats.

Serkan Calik's strike after a Sukur flick put Gala ahead five minutes after half time and Rigobert Song's penalty in the 63rd minute put the visitors in firm control.

Grigoris Makos was shown a yellow card for the challenge that led to the penalty and was sent off seconds later after his complaints earned him a second booking.

Panionios were up against it from them on in and Sukur capped Gala's first away victory in UEFA competition for 12 matches with eight minutes left.

Neither side was willing to take risks in a cagey opening 45 minutes.

Panionios, for whom winger Dario Fernandez was a constant threat with his trickery and direct running, looked dangerous whenever they broke forward but their final ball let them down and their only opportunities came from distance with defender Yiannis Maniatis and Fernandez both trying their luck without success.

Sukur came on after half-time and his introduction proved the catalyst for Gala as two goals in 13 minutes saw them move into a 2-0 lead.

The first came five minutes after the break when Calik sprang the hosts' offside trap to latch on to Sukur's flick, keeping his composure brilliantly to round home keeper Charalampos Tambasis before slotting home from an acute angle.

Then Sukur's superb slide rule path sent Calik scampering clear and, when was felled by Makos, Spanish referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco pointed to the spot.

Song kept a cool head to side-foot home into the top right hand corner from 12 yards with Makos duly sent off.

Sukur then put the icing on the victory, starting a move by spreading the ball out wide on the left to substitute Mehmet Guven. His cross was inch perfect for Sukur, who arrived perfectly to head home.

BESIKTAS STILL ALIVE!....

Brazilian Bobo's late goal earned Besiktas a 2-1 win over Olympique Marseille in their Champions League Group A match on Wednesday to keep alive the Turkish team's hopes of reaching the last 16.
Besiktas remain bottom but now have six points and trail Marseille and Liverpool by just a point after the English side thrashed group leaders Porto 4-1 at Anfield.
The Turks visit the Portuguese, who have eight points, in their final group match while Liverpool travel to Marseille.
With the Turkish side on the verge of elimination, striker Bobo sprinted on to a pass in the 88th minute and slotted the ball under Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
Still smarting from an 8-0 thrashing at Liverpool in their previous fixture, Besiktas were fired up for the match.
"Unfortunately, we saddened everyone in the last game and we had to win to ease that sadness," said coach Ertugrul Saglam. "Now it is down to the last match and every team can advance."
"We can beat Porto. We will do what we can to win the game and advance to the next round," he said.
The home side attacked straight from the kickoff with midfielder Rodrigo Tello firing a long-range shot just over the bar in the second minute.
With Marseille failing to impose themselves in the early stages, Besiktas continued to exert pressure culminating with Tello opening the scoring in the 27th minute.
The Chilean curled a freekick over the wall and into the right-hand corner, leaving Mandanda helpless.
Marseille emerged in the second half with more purpose and got their reward in the 65th minute when Nigerian substitute Taye Taiwo drove in a powerful long-range shot to beat Turkey goalkeeper Rustu Recber.
Marseille's equaliser shook Besiktas back into life and with two minutes of normal time remaining, Bobo revived the Turkish side's hopes of advancing to the knockout phase.

FENERBAHCE HAS TO WAIT UNTIL LAST MATCH !

Inter Milan 3-0 Fenerbahce
Julio Cruz, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Jimenez bagged second half goals as Internazionale booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with a demolition of Fenerbahce on Tuesday. The Italian champions waited 55 minutes to make the breakthrough, Cruz tapping in the opener, but thereafter they were unstoppable.

Ibrahimovic made it two with an exquisite finish 25 minutes from time and following a flurry of chances substitute Jimenez wrapped up the rout in injury time. it takes Roberto Mancini`s side onto 12 points from five games - an insurmountable Group G lead of four points from Fenerbahce - while the Turks hold a slender one-point lead over PSV Eindhoven, who beat CSKA Moscow. Despite what lay ahead, Fenerbahce started brightly. Selcuk Sahin crashed a drive against the advertising hoardings after a minute, while Gokhan Gonul had Esteban Cambiasso scrambling to clear a cross five minutes later. Wayward efforts from Wederson, Sahin and Roberto Carlos followed as Zico`s midfield creators developed a rhythm, but ultimately it was Inter who had the better chances.

Dejan Stankovic set the trend in the 12th minute, heading over Maxwell`s cross when in front of goal, and Cruz emphasised the point by blasting inches wide 20 minutes later. In between, Cristian Chivu thought he had won a penalty when brought down by Diego Lugano, but the referee correctly waved away the appeals, and Ibrahimovic nearly coaxed an own goal from Gokhan when he fired a low cross in front of goal 10 minutes before half-time. Three more efforts came from the left shin of Ibrahimovic, the shoulder of Stankovic and right boot of Cambiasso, but Inter could not find a goal and Fenerbache still looked secure. Indeed, they were brightest at the onset of the second period. Deivid did the bulk of the damage, making incisive runs from the left, while Alex looked dangerous on the end of crosses. It was the latter who had the first meaningful chance of the half, side-footing wide from outside the area, but, like the first period, Inter were soon looking more dangerous and it paid off in the 55th minute. Maxwell was the architect of the opener, breaking down the left and firing a dangerous ball across the six-yard box, and Cruz claimed the goal after lunging past centre-half Edu. Ibrahimovic then skied a chance to double the lead, but he was back to his clinical best 25 minutes from time when he got Inter`s second of the game and his fifth of the campaign. Chivu supplied the cross, whipping a bouncing ball in from the left, and Ibrahimovic did the rest, trapping the ball before calmly squeezing his shot through the gap made by Roberto Carlos` thigh and the keeper`s left-hand post. Thereafter, Fenerbahce lost their spark and nearly fell three behind when Ibrahimovic`s 35-yard free-kick stung the fingertips of Volkan Demirel. It was a good save by Demirel, only bettered by that he made at the feet of David Suazo in the final five minutes, but it was scant consolation as the score was soon 3-0. Cambiasso was the creator, playing in Jimenez, a substitute for Maxwell, who used the outside of his boot to swerve the ball around Demirel in the 92nd minute.

GALATASARAY KEEPS THE TOP SPOT WITH LATE GOAL!.....

WEKEEND IN REVIEW: WEEK 13,
A last-minute goal from Serkan Calik was enough to secure Turkish Turkcell Super League leaders Galatasaray a 1-0 victory at Trabzonspor. With 25 goals, Gala have the best attack in the Turkcell Super League but could not find a way past Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ahmet Sahin until the 89th minute.A late goal for Sivasspor saw them remain joint top with a 1-0 triumph over seventh-placed Kayserispor who have yet to record a victory on their travels.Musa Aydin pounced in the 83rd minute for the hosts.Fourth-placed Ankaragucu also won 1-0 to keep themselves in the title race.
Giani Kirita's 54th-minute spot-kick was enough to secure victory over strugglers Manisaspor.
Substitute Ali Cansun Begecarslan's brace prevented Genclerbirligi from recording a vital win at Gaziantepspor.
Mehmet Cakir gave the visitors a sixth-minute lead before Begecarslan netted his first on 76 minutes - just three minutes after stepping onto the pitch.Erhan Guven thought he had taken all three points with a goal in the 85th minute, but Begecarslan pounced in injury-time to snatch a share of the spoils.
Kasimpasa remain rock-bottom of the table after falling to a 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Caykur Rizespor.
Kursat Duymus put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half-time but Omer Hacisalihoglu was sent off in the 56th minute and Gustavo Victoria added to their misery by firing home the resulting spot-kick.
Elsewhere, Bursaspor moved further away from the relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 win over Konyaspor with Mustafa Sarp grabbing the only goal of the game on 32 minutes.
FENERBAHCE AND ALEX SINKS ANKARASPOR......
Fenerbahce kept the third place with a 4-2 win over Ankaraspor.Alex and Semih Senturk put the home side two up at half-time but Mehmet Yilmaz pulled one back after the interval.
Alex completed his hat-trick with two goals in three minutes before Yilmaz notched a late consolation.
Besiktas sit fourth, four points off the pace, following a 1-0 win at Genclerbirligi OFTAS.
Deivson Bobo scored the game's only goal 10 minutes before half-time.
Denizlispor moved up to fifth with a 2-0 win at Istanbul Buyuksehir BSK.
Yusuf Simsek opened the scoring two minutes after the break before Hasan Yigit made the points safe seven minutes from time.

TURKEY(TURKIYE) IS IN EURO 2008!

Turkey's head coach Fatih Terim celebrates his team's win over Bosnia in their Euro 2008 Group C qualifying soccer match
Turkish national soccer team defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 in the Group C of Euro 2008 qualifying round in Istanbul on Wednesday, securing a spot in the finals in next year's European Championship.

Nihat Kahveci score the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute when Hamit Altintop found him with a cross and the Villarreal striker fired beyond Bosnia keeper Adnan Guso into the corner of the net.

After creating a string of chances in the first half, the Turkish National Team, protected their lead against a Bosnian side who rarely looked likely to score.

Turkish National Team finished second in Group C, behind Greece who had already secured their place before Wednesday's final qualifying matches. Norway, who lost to Turkey 2-1 on Saturday, missed out by finishing third one point behind the Turkish National Team.
Fatih Terim and his boy's did it hard way, but ,They did it at the end...
Kudos to Fatih Terim and his crew!...It's well deserved day after crucial times!

A HUGE WIN!...

Fatih Terim smiles after his team's 2-1 victory against Norway in the Euro 2008 qualifying soccer match in Oslo, Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007. (AP Photo/Kyrre Lien, SCANPIX NORWAY)

NOW WE HAVE THE ADVANTAGE...NOW DESTINY IN OUR HANDS!..

We have the advantage now, to join Greece at the Euro 2008 finals after coming from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 in Group C in Oslo and leave the Scandinavian side facing qualifying heartache.

that is the good part,,,,we must not forget we have one more game against Bosnia.

We must beat Bosnia in Istanbul too to do this...

I am very glad to see Turkish National team won....I am still cautious optimist about this team , looking at the future. I am also not happy with Fatih Terim the way he takes a shot at people after the matches.

He has a problem!.....that problem is not going to go way....He forgets this is the Turkish National Team , it is not just his team, it's the whole Turkiye's and all Turkish Soccer fans team!...

Let me be the first to give him the credit for last night's win, after he got us out of the mass, that he put it..

Here is what Fatih Terim told Reuters after the match "I want to thank the people that have supported us during these days. To the people who haven't supported us, I have nothing to say."

Is this the thing to say after a huge win?,,,,,, You decide!....

The Match..........

In foggy conditions, Norway went ahead in the 12th minute with a stunning overhead kick from defender Erik Hagen, but Turkiye equalised through Emre on 31 minutes before sealing victory with Nihat Kahveci's strike 14 minutes into the second half.Norway have not qualified for a major tournament since Euro 2000 and, after missing out in the play-offs for Euro 2004 and last summer's World Cup, they kicked off knowing victory would break that run.

Norway took the lead with a goal of real quality. Steffen Iversen flicked on a free-kick and Hagen, with his back to goal, controlled the ball on his chest before rifling an overhead kick into the roof of the net.

John Carew had a header saved as Norway searched for a second goal, although Turkiye remained dangerous and got back into the game on 31 minutes.Emre beat his man on the edge of the box, made space and blasted a dipping drive beyond Norway goalkeeper Hakon Opdal. Fatih Terim's men were now in the ascendancy and Hamit Altintop came close again with a long-range attempt on 40 minutes before Morten Gamst Pedersen was thwarted by goal keeper Volkan Demirel at the other end.Villarreal forward Nihat scored what proved to be the winner in the 59th minute, receiving the ball from substitute Gokhan Gonul before shooting past Opdal.

Turkiye will qualify if they defeat Bosnia at home on Wednesday. They are second in the group, one point above Norway who visit Malta with their fate out of their hands.

Everything at stake!...

Turkish national soccer coach Fatih Terim reacts during a news conference in Oslo, November 16, 2007. Turkey will play Norway in their Euro 2008 qualifying soccer match on November 17, 2007. REUTERS/Kyrre Lien/Scanpix (NORWAY)

We cannot afford to lose against Norway in Oslo and we must beat the Norwegians to take the maximum points.

A defeat would mark the end of qualifying bid, and a draw would be almost as bad. That would also mean that the boys of coach Fatih Terim team would need to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina at home on 21 November while hoping for a Norwegian slip in Malta to have any chance of progress.

FATIH TERIM:"We had planned to be four points clear of Norway at this stage but some unwanted results have put us in a different situation,"

Well, I am glad that Mr.Fatih Terim saw that!...Hello!....Are you wake!...

Since 4-1 win in Greece in March, we have won just one qualifier, thrashing Hungary 3-0 recently.

But on the other side, other results have included a 2-2 draw at Malta and a 1-1 tie in Chisinau against a spirited Moldova outfit. A 1-0 home defeat to Greece further compounded their woes.

"Anything is possible in football," said Terim. "We aim to win and will do everything to achieve that."

Well , Mr.Terim This is your last chance....Everything at stake!..

So,Turkiye's and yours destiny is in your hands......

We will be watching..........................

Norway confident ahead of Turkey Euro qualifier

Norway fancy their chances ahead of Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against injury-hit Turkey knowing a victory would secure a place in the finals.
Norway, having won four out of their last five qualifiers with tireless, aggressive performances, would also guarantee a berth with a draw followed by a win in Malta next week.

Turkey trail Norway by two points in Group C, which is led by already-qualified European Champions Greece, and know defeat in Oslo would end their qualifying hopes.

Norway will rely on towering striker John Carew and players from in-form Champions League side Rosenborg after captain and midfielder Martin Andresen was ruled out by a knee injury.

Steffen Iversen, who scored twice for Rosenborg against Valencia this month, is set to start up front with Carew. Both players have scored four goals in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Ghana-born Alexander Tettey is expected to get his second cap in place of Andersen and possibly share the midfield with Rosenborg team mate Per Ciljan Skjelbred.

Norway often succeed by controlling midfield with swarming, aggressive play, and capitalise on the occasional through ball.

"We are very difficult to beat, we work very hard and play wise football," defender John Arne Riise said. "Other teams may be more technical but we work harder."

Turkey coach Fatih Terim will have to cope without key midfielder Yildiray Basturk, who has a groin strain, and is likely to turn to some untried players.

"We have played a lot of matches like this and come through. I trust and believe in my players," Terim said.

Turkey defender Deniz Baris is having treatment for back pains while striker Serhat Akin is suffering from flu.

From the five uncapped players in his squad, Terim is likely to start with defenders Gokhan Gonul and Hayrettin Yerlikaya, while Semih Senturk is expected to play up front.

"The Norway game can be described as a do-or-die match," Senturk told reporters. "We have more quality than Norway and if we go on to the pitch believing in ourselves we can win."

Turkey drew 2-2 at home to Norway in March after visiting goalkeeper Thomas Myhre, since dropped from the team, let a free kick run through his legs to give the Turks a late equaliser.

Probable teams:
Norway: Haakon Opdal, Jarl-Andre Storbaek, Erik Hagen, Brede Hangeland, John Arne Riise, Bjoern Helge Riise, Alexander Tettey, Christian Grindheim, Steffen Iversen, John Carew, Morten Gamst Pedersen

Turkey: Volkan Demirel, Gokhan Gonul, Servet Cetin, Emre Asik, Hayrettin Yerlikaya, Tuncay Sanli, Emre Belozoglu, Mehmet Aurelio, Hamit Altintop, Nihat Kahveci, Semih Senturk

WHAT IS FATIH TERIM TRYING TO DO?.....

Really, Is Fatih Terim, OK?... I thought he was building a team for 2010 World Cup Tournament....
That was his own words when he took the job from Ersun Yanal.
There is very two important matches in front of him and he called up six uncapped players in his 24-man squad for the final two Euro 2008 qualifiers away against Norway on Nov. 17 and at home against Bosnia four days later. There is one player who is 32 years old,his name is Yusuf Simsek, plays for Denizlispor as a play maker, called up by Fatih Terim after Midfielder Mehmet Topuz was put on injury list.
The other uncapped five players are, defenders -- Sedat Bayrak, Ibrahim Kas, Gokhan Gonul and Hayrettin Yerlikaya and striker Semih Senturk from Fenerbahce.Do you ever think , Turkey will beat Norway, with this kind of thinking!... The man(Fatih Terim), is just not confident with him self and obviously with the National Team. He has reshuffled the team in every match that he coached. In the latest injury news, Fatih Tekke will not play against Norway due to Injury.Looking at the roster, There is a lot of new names and players like Tuncay Sanli who is the worst transfer in England according to British Media and looking at the forwards, there is Nihat Serbetci and in the midfield Yildiray Basturk , if he is healty, he will make a difference ,along with Hamit Altintop and Emre Belezoglu. The cold weather will be big factor for Turkish National team.
So, Fatih Terim's Reshuffled and the team without future vision, going to play very hard match in Norway, This will be do or die match for Turkish National Team and Mr. Fatih Terim.
Squad:
Goalkeepers: Rustu Recber (Besiktas), Volkan Demirel (Fenerbahce), Serkan Kirintili (Ankaragucu)
Defenders: Servet Cetin (Galatasaray), Hayrettin Yerlikaya (Sivasspor), Sedat Bayrak (Sivasspor), Deniz Baris (Fenerbahce), Gokhan Gonul (Fenerbahce), Ibrahim Kas (Besiktas), Emre Asik (Ankaraspor)
Midfielders: Arda Turan (Galatasaray), Mehmet Aurelio (Fenerbahce), Yusuf Simsek (Denizlispor), Gokdeniz Karadeniz (Trabzonspor), Hamit Altintop (Bayern Munich), Emre Belozoglu (Newcastle United), Yildiray Basturk (Stuttgart), Tuncay Sanli (Middlesbrough)
Forwards: Hakan Kadir Balta (Galatasaray), Mehmet Yildiz (Sivasspor), Semih Senturk (Fenerbahce), Nihat Kahveci (Villarreal), Serhat Niyazi Akin (RSC Anderlecht).

Turks are driving the most online traffic for Champions League Matches!..

I always wondered how many people watched the Champions League matches on line from UEFA.com and ESPN360.com.
Well, my wondering ended!...In Washington Times newspaper ,there was an article done by Tim Lemke about this topic!
According to his article,Turks lead the online traffic for Champions League matches. Here is the Article..

European Champions League
I'm not an enormous soccer fan, but I have to admit a certain delight in following the Champions League, a hugely popular and remarkably intense tournament featuring the best teams from Europe. With many matches taking place this week, I pondered writing a story about the growing number of games available live on the Internet at places like ESPN360 and UEFA.com. I was operating on the theory that the availability of more matches online might actually pique the interest of casual American fans, who are less likely to pay big bucks for a special soccer television package like Setanta Sports or Fox Soccer Channel.

But, my reporting uncovered a lot of mixed information on the subject.

It's clear there is a market for streaming of live matches here in America. ESPN360 reported 3 million streams of the World Cup in 2006 and 500,000 streams for Champions League games earlier this spring. And for the 2007-08 Champions League tournament, ESPN360 will show three times as many games, so the number of streams should top 1 million.

"It's certainly growing," said John Zehr, ESPN's senior vice president of digital media production, of the popularity of Champions League games. "There are pockets of the country where European soccer has a pretty big following."

The network appears to be using the Champions League as highlighted programming as it seeks broader distribution of its new version of its video player, launched in September. (Currently, about 17 million people have access to the service and that will grow to 20 million by 2008, officials said.)

It's still unclear, though, who is tuning in to these online broadcasts. Zehr admitted the Champions League is "long tail" programming, meaning that it's highly appealing to a niche audience. He pointed out that die-hard Champions League fans who would prefer to watch games on big-screen televisions often can't in America because the games are played at 2:30 p.m. ET, smack dab in the middle of the workday. For those fans, a good online broadcast is the next best thing.

UEFA officials said they are specifically targeting the American audience for their online broadcasts at UEFA.com, because the sport can't get more popular in Europe.

"Our live online market is indeed in the USA and South America," said Andy Pattison, production manager for UEFA.com. "This does reflect the increased interest in soccer but also the saturation of the Champions League within Europe."

But Pattison also said the online games have been most popular in places where only the top games are available on television. (Turkish ex-pats are driving the most online traffic at the moment, he said, because UEFA.com is one of the few places fans can see games of top Turkish clubs Fenerbahçe and Besiktas.)

So is that the audience for online soccer? Die-hard fans who are stuck at the office and Turkish people who can't otherwise see their team's games?

I interviewed a number of European soccer fans who live in the U.S., and most said that they prefer to pay for a special satellite package or go to a bar to watch international soccer, if possible.

"The online games really don't impact us, because anyone who wants to get our games can get them on television," said Jim O'Donnell, president of the Washington, D.C. chapter of the North American Federation of Celtic Supporters Clubs. "I'm sure there are some football fans without an allegiance who might watch online, but I can't say what kind of effort they'd make."

Mike Kavanagh, president of Arsenal America, a club for American fans of Arsenal FC, said he knows a number of fans who were once uninterested in soccer but became huge supporters after watching online broadcasts of the World Cup last year.

"There were guys who couldn't have cared less about soccer, but they had ESPN360, and now they're into international football, which is fantastic," he said.

Fenerbahce in strong position

Fenerbahce beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in their Champions League Group G match on Wednesday to put the Turkish team in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Fenerbahce took the lead after 28 minutes through an own goal by PSV defender Dirk Marcellis who deflected a shot from Kazim Kazim into the Eindhoven net.

Two minutes later Kazim's strike partner Semih Senturk doubled their lead, driving a shot beneath goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes after being put through by Brazilian playmaker Alex.

The result left Fenerbahce second in the group on eight points, one point behind Inter Milan who beat CSKA Moscow 4-2. PSV remained third on four points while the Russian side are bottom with just one point and have been eliminated.

'This was a big game and every player fought well and I congratulate them,' said Fenerbahce's Brazilian coach Zico. 'We tried to exert pressure on them throughout and the team got the result they deserved.'

'The victory today was very important in terms of qualifying. Our goal is clearly to be the top team so the remaining two games are just as important,' he said.

Alex, orchestrating the Turkish side's attacks, nearly added a third goal after 34 minutes when he tried to lob the PSV goalkeeper but the ball just cleared the bar.

The home side eased up in the second half but still occasionally looked dangerous in front of goal.

After 55 minutes, Kazim fired in another shot from the right, forcing a good save from Gomes who gathered the ball after Mehmet Aurelio, another of Fenerbahce's Brazilian contingent, failed to latch on to the rebound.

Gomes again came to his side's rescue after 68 minutes, diving to save a shot from Senturk.

'We lost the ball a lot and of course Fenerbahce played well,' said PSV caretaker coach Jan Wouters, who stepped into the role after Ronald Koeman left for Valencia this month.

'Unfortunately, we made mistakes and that is why we lost.'

PSK exerted a flurry of pressure in the final stages as they tried to make up the deficit but most of their efforts were waywward while Fenerbahce's Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel easily gathered the few efforts on target.

DISASTER FOR BESIKTAS IN LIVERPOOL! .8-0

I TOLD YOU SO! ....here is what I wrote after Fenerbahce match......
Looking at both of the teams last night, before the big games in the Champions League , both teams defense and goal keepers looked really bad!..... Let me say it again, Big teams need a good goal keepers!....Did you see Hakan Arikan ,yesterday on second goal!.... he dropped the ball, on a cross and Semih scored the second goal....give me a brake!.....this was another factor, why Besiktas lost yesterday, besides the referee Ismet Arzuman. Fenerbahce did not deserve to win the match yesterday......

Striker Lisandro Lopez scored a late header to give Porto a 2-1 win over Olympique Marseille to move atop of the UEFA Champions League Group A while Liverpool recorded an 8-0 win over Besiktas on Tuesday.
Israel international Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick for Liverpool, winners of the Champions League in 2005 and runners-up last season.

Liverpool, who failed to win any of their opening three games, could not afford to drop more points against the Turkish club, who beat them 2-1 in Istanbul last month.

Peter Crouch and Benayoun scored in the first half to pave the way for a torrent of goals after the break.

Benayoun added two more, with other goals from captain Steven Gerrard, substitute Ryan Babel with two, and Crouch his second.

Besiktas have only won once away from home in 10 Champions League fixtures.

Crouch opened the scoring after 19 minutes. However, it was Benayoun who was the star of the show. He opened his tally in the 32nd minute by volleying in a cross from Voronin, and scored twice in three minutes to register his first hat-trick for Liverpool.

Gerrard then blasted home the fifth before Babel came off the bench to help himself to two goals in three minutes.

Delgado: We can sink Reds

Besiktas midfielder Matias Delgado insists he will not be 'surprised' if his side defeat Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Besiktas travel to Anfield having beaten Liverpool 2-1 in Istanbul a fortnight ago to leave Rafa Benitez's side struggling for European progression.

Delgado is adamant Liverpool's current squad lacks the capabilities of previous years, which saw the club appear in two Champions League finals in three years, and believes he and his team-mates can gun down the Reds.

"Besiktas is prepared for a battle at Anfield,"

In Istanbul we deserved the victory and played a sensational match. On Tuesday a point would be positive, but we desire a victory.

"For me, it would not be a surprise if we triumph at Anfield. This Liverpool side is vulnerable and not the super team of previous seasons.

"Now they suffer many problems in defence and concede many goals in matches.

"The pressure is on them and this is positive for us. The tie is nearly goodbye to the former champions and there is a big chance for us to exploit that.

"Before the match in Turkey no one believed in Besiktas. Now the circumstances have changed and Liverpool are nervous at Anfield.

"A victory at Anfield in the Champions League is something I would remember for the rest of my life and I want to experience it."

IT IS DO OR DIE MATCH FOR LIVERPOOL AND BESIKTAS

Besiktas coach Ertugrul Saglam sees Peter Crouch as the biggest danger to his side's hopes of progress in the Champions League.

Saglam, who returns to the touchline after being banned from the dugout for the Turks' 2-1 win over Liverpool in Istanbul last month, fears Crouch can exploit the visitors weakened defence at Anfield.

Reds boss Rafael Benitez has given no indication whether Crouch will be allowed a rare outing in his starting line-up, but Saglam expects the England striker to be plunged into tomorrow's Group A game.

Besiktas are without key central defender Gokhan Zan, who is out for a month with torn tendons in his right foot.

Gokhan was outstanding in the first match, and only under pressure when Crouch came on as a late substitute.

Now Saglam says: "Crouch is an important player for Liverpool. His height gives him an advantage over virtually every defender.

"We do not have Gokhan for this match, and maybe for our next Champions League game. I am aware of the advantage that will give Liverpool and Crouch.

"We will aim to stop him, but that may mean we will have to work in other areas to stop the ball being played into him. Competing against someone with his physique is always difficult."

Saglam is unmoved over whether Fernando Torres will be risked after his adductor strain, saying: "I have no preference as to which of Liverpool's strikers play.

"If it is not Torres, it will be Dirk Kuyt, if not Kuyt then (Andriy) Voronin, or then Crouch. Any of the four are good players. All I know is that Liverpool will not start with all four!"

Saglam believes his side can all but end Liverpool's involvement in the competition.

He said: "We played very well to beat them in Istanbul, we will be aiming to repeat that result.

"We believe we can do that. It will be difficult because we are playing a special club, a special team and in a special stadium. We understand how important Liverpool's crowd is for them.

"But we can handle that pressure. We had practised at the weekend at Fenerbahce where there were 50,000 people against us."

Besiktas are also without Rodrigo Tello (ankle), Marcio Nobre (calf) and Ibrahim Akin (knee) for the match, but have restored Rustu Recber to the side, after the Turkey goalkeeper missed the first game in preference to Hakan Arikan.

Saglam concedes the importance of the match, saying: "This game will decide who qualifies for the next stage. To make sure that it is Besiktas going through, we know we must get a good result, and we are aiming to win.

"We have already shown how to beat Liverpool once. Now we aim to do it again. We know we cannot hope to defend for 90 minutes, it is not possible.

"So we will be hoping to keep the score at 0-0 for a long time, and then they will have to come out and attack us. Liverpool have to win, and when they do that we will be able to hit them on the break.

"Because of the results in their three previous group matches, they are under a lot of pressure, and the longer we are level, the more pressure will mount on them."
Torres return
Spanish striker Fernando Torres gave Liverpool a major boost when he returned to full training on the eve of Tuesday's must-win Champions League clash against Besiktas at Anfield

Liverpool v Besiktas: Preview

Jamie Carragher insists Liverpool thrive on pressure as he prepares for the must-win Champions League clash with Turkish side Besiktas.

The teak-tough defender demands character from his colleagues, and believes the Reds are more than capable of defying the odds to win their last three Group A games, which would secure unlikely qualification for the last 16.

Carragher said: ``We should have pressure, that's what comes from playing for a big team.

``If the results don't go well, and it is same for Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and all the big clubs around Europe, you are under pressure.

``But we want to be under pressure, because it is a big game, it is only what we expect.

``We have a lot of respect for Besiktas, they beat us in Turkey and played well. It was a great atmosphere and they did well, but we know we can put that right on our own pitch.

``Hopefully this will bring the best out of our squad. We have been in this position before and produced the goods then.

``This club is built on character, and we know we need that. We must start the game well and turn it into a great European night.''

Carragher added: ``Looking at the group table, we know it is not good, but I feel it will look a lot better after the game.

``It is a competition we have done really well in, so we are scratching our heads a bit to understand what has gone wrong this season.

``Maybe it was because we started so badly in the first 20 minutes of the opening game in Porto, then we had a man sent off and conceded a penalty.

``It wasn't a great start although the draw was a good result in the circumstances. Then we played really badly in losing at home to Marseille and they got an amazing goal near the end and we didn't recover.

``Away to Besiktas, we were unfortunate. We had so many chances. But that is the way it goes.

``It is right that people expected us to breeze through this group considering how well we had done in the last few years.

``But it is never as easy as that. This is the Champions League and anyone can beat even the best - that has been proved over these first three games.

``There's nothing wrong with our confidence, we have only lost a couple of games this season. But we have not played that well, and that has got to change now.''

Carragher maintains that people have had every right to be critical of Liverpool this term, saying: ``We expect criticism if we don't do well. We are Liverpool, we are expected to win and when we don't then we know people will have their say. What's different about that?

``We are English football's most successful side in Europe, we expect people to have a go at us if our standards drop. That is when you realise you are playing for a special club.

``One good result and we will be on a run again. People always write us off but it never bothers me, it is part of playing for a big club.

``There's always one time a season when all hell breaks lose. In the manager's first season, it was when we lost to Burnley in the (FA) Cup. The following season it came after a defeat at Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup.

``Last season, it was when we lost to Arsenal twice in a week. Everyone was going nuts but it wasn't long before we were all back to normal.''

FENERBAHCE "LEAPFROG" BESIKTAS!........

Here is my take, on the whole game that played on Saturday. There is saying in every language" If you can't score, they will score on you" that is exactly what happened to Besiktas yesterday.

Young Batuhan and Bobo missed a chances to tied the match. As far as the goal called back by referee Ismet Arzuman, it was a goal!....He said "he whistled and called foul on Besiktas before the goal"

I don't think there was a foul there...two players went for air ball..that's all....I think ,Ismet Arzuman robbed Besiktas last night.
Now the details of the match......Besiktas have missed the chance to draw level with Turkish Super League leaders Galatasaray as they let an early lead slip to lose 2-1 at FenerbahceBobo put the visitors ahead after only three minutes, but Deivid drew Fenerbahce level in the 29th minute before Semih Senturk netted the winner on the hour-mark.
Fenerbahce leapfrog above fourth-placed Besiktas into second spot in the table.

A last-gasp goal saw Konyaspor record their first away win of the season at Genclerbirligi OFTAS.Substitute Veysel Cihan, who had only been on the pitch for eight minutes, bagged the winner right at the death to send his side to within a point of their ninth-placed opponents.

Trabzonspor defeat Ankaraspor......
Trabzonspor have defeated bottom side Ankaraspor 2-1 in the Turkish  Turkcell Super Leagues thanks to goals either side of half-time from Umut Bulut and Ceyhun Eris.
Ankaraspor's response came via a last-minute Huseyin Cimsir own goal.
