Galatasaray, with a four-point lead on the top of the group, will secure first position if they topple the Ukrainian team.
Turkey's UEFA Cup champions Galatasaray are set to host Ukraine's Metalist Kharkiv on Thursday in a UEFA Cup Group B match at Istanbul's Ali Sami Yen Stadium.
The match which will kick-off at 20:00 p.m. Turkish local time(13:00 ET )
Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan wants to see his side continue their excellent UEFA Cup form against Metalist Kharkiv and secure top spot in their group.
Galatasaray, who announced the return of former coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp in a consultancy role, sit atop Group B having won both their matches in the section so far.
It is a position from which only one team has failed to qualify in the tournament's current format, namely Rangers four seasons ago.
Metalist have played just one game, a creditable goalless draw against Hertha Berlin.
Turan sees Thursday's game, the club's first ever match against Ukrainian opposition, as an ideal opportunity to lay down a marker for the rest of the tournament.
"It's a crucial match for the group," he told www.galatasaray.org. "It's also important for the coming rounds.
"If we finish the group stage as runners-up we shall play against the third-placed teams.
"In the UEFA Cup there is one thorny road and one stony road. If we finish first in our group we shall have the chance to get onto the easy road.
"We are on the verge of securing a berth with the support of our fans at home."
Murat Akca today underwent cruciate ligament surgery, described by the club as successful.
Coach Michael Skibbe will be without Hasan Sas, Serkan Calik and Ugur Ucar, who are working their way back from injury, while a host of players, including Tobias Linderoth, Mehmet Topal and Lincln, are not fully fit and may not be risked.
Metalist have already travelled to Istanbul once this season, having lost 1-0 at Besiktas in their first-round tie before storming back in the second leg to claim a 4-2 aggregate victory.
They go into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Zarya Lugansk in the Ukrainian Superliga courtesy of goals from Seweryn Gancarczyk and Ruslan Fomin.
They sit second in their domestic league, three points behind Dynamo Kiev.
Olympiakos entertain Benfica in tomorrow's other Group B game.

FENERBAHCE'S DREAM OVER IN THE CL!...
Fenerbahce 1 Porto 2
Lisandro Lopez scored twice as Porto booked their place in the Champions League knockout stages with a fine 2-1 win over Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
The Argentinian opened the scoring at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium with a tap-in after goalkeeper Volkan Demirel's flap at a looping cross, and then added another before the break after appearing to control the ball with his arm.
Fenerbahce improved following the half-time introduction of Colin Kazim-Richards, and the former Sheffield United player pulled a goal back with a deflected shot, but the Turkish club could not find an equaliser and crashed out of the competition.
Luis Aragones' side were dominant early on in front of their typically vocal supporters but Lisandro showed the Portuguese champions were up for the fight with a low shot just wide from the edge of the box in the ninth minute.
And it was Turkey goalkeeper Volkan who made the first save of the match in the 13th minute, when he acrobatically tipped over Raul Meireles' well-hit drive after a fine run by Lisandro down the left.
The match was wide open and Gokhan should have done better when he shot across the face of goal from 12 yards - and Fenerbahce were left to rue that miss when Porto took the lead in the 19th minute.
Bruno Alves' hopeful looped cross from the right should have been dealt with by Volkan but he could only palm the ball down to Lisandro who shot home from close range.
Two minutes later Edu glanced a header inches wide for the hosts.
Lisandro made it two in the 28th minute when he collected a throw-in, seemingly with the help of his arm, turned and shot, and although Volkan parried the Argentinian's effort, he stabbed the rebound into the net.
Fenerbahce were stunned and Porto were almost three up before the break when Tomas Costa's lob bounced back off the post after a quick break.
After the half-time introduction of substitute Kazim-Richards, the Turkish club nearly pulled a fortuitous goal back two minutes into the second period but the ball flew just off target after a series of ricochets.
Hulk then outmuscled Edu to go one-on-one with Volkan but the keeper did well to parry his shot.
Kazim-Richards finally reduced the arrears in the 64th minute when his 20-yard shot looped into the net off Alves, but that was as good as it got as classy Porto held on comfortably to join Group G colleagues Arsenal in the last 16.

Fenerbahce must win over Porto to stay alive...
Fenerbahce must beat Portuguese powerhouse Porto in their penultimate UEFA Champions League Group G game in Istanbul Tuesday evening to keep their slim hopes of survival alive, local Today's Zaman reported.
This is in fact a grudge match because the Portuguese beat the Canaries 3-1 when the two teams met in Porto in their group opener on Sept. 17. And the Fener players as well as Spanish coach Luis Aragones still remember the cheap goals in three minutes early in the first half that helped Porto win that match.
Fenerbahce has a golden opportunity to mete out revenge on Porto when the two teams meet again at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, where, according to Fener fans, "there is no exit." But for the Canaries to obtain the desired results, coach Luis Aragones must be at his best. His team selection, game plan and substitutions during this match must be right.
Tuesday evening's game is of paramount importance for Fener and for Aragones' future at the Istanbul club. If the Canaries are eliminated from the prestigious and lucrative Champions League, then Aragones' job could be in jeopardy because they are not performing well in the domestic league.
Aragones should therefore select his team without fear or favor. There shouldn't be a place for a player like Claudio Maldonado, who cannot run, jump or slide-tackle. Also the Canaries have not won in the two matches captain-playmaker Alex De Souza has played ever since he returned from injury. If Alex has turned from asset to liability, he too may be sidelined.
With star striker Semih Senturk still nursing an injury, Aragones may decide to use midfielder Deivid De Souza as a striker to help Dani Guiza upfront. The Canaries need not be afraid of Porto and should take the game to their opponents because that's the only way they can win in this must-win situation.
Fenerbahce fullback Roberto Carlos faced Porto seven times during his time with Real Madrid and finished on the losing side only once -- winning on five occasions. Roberto Carlos has been scoring from set pieces of late in the domestic league. He should also try to score against Porto on Tuesday.

TRABZONSPOR'S STALL IS BESIKTAS'S GAIN!.....
That is exactly right...
Trabzonspor's drought gave Besiktas to close on Trabzonspor......
Trabzonspor could not cash in the huge weekend after, big guns of the league, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray also draw in Ankara on Saturday.
Like I mentioned in my previous article, Trabzonspor had a chance to extend the lead.
But, another though team of the league, Sivaspor, played good......
Although, this was nil nil draw match, there were a lot of excitement ....
A lot of miss chances by both team, in a rainy day......
"We had our chances, and should have scored at least in one of them," Ersun Yanal coach of Trabzonspor, told reporters after the game. "The conditions were tough. I congratulate my players for their efforts."
On the other hand, week 12's most beneficiary team was Besiktas......
They were the only team from Istanbul who won their match.....
They also scored two goals against Eskisehirspor at home.....
Coach of Besiktas, Mustafa Denizli, after making mistake in the line-up last weekend against Bursaspor, corrected his mistake in this match on Sunday....
Therefore,Besiktas now two points closer to Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super League after a 2-0 win over Eskisehirspor.
Trabzonspor have 27 points at the end of week 12, and Besiktas is on second with 25 points. Ankaraspor are currently third with 23 points.
Also on Sunday,Denizlispor comeback for a 4-3 victory at home over Bursaspor. It was Denizlispor coach Ümit Kayıhan’s first home game as a Denizlispor coach.

At the end of the week 12, Besiktas gain ground while Trabzonspor, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce lost a huge chances............
In week 13, Trabzonspor will have really though match in Kayseri against Kayserispor
Besiktas will clash in, Istanbul derby match, against Fenerbahce....
On the other hand, Galatasaray will be at home against Hacetepe and Ankaraspor who is on third will play at home against Ankaragucu and Sivasspor the team who stopped Trabzonspor will also be at home against Gaziantepspor.....
The scores, out of these matches, will determine the standings in the Turkish Super league, next weekend.

COULD TRABZONSPOR OPEN THE LEAD?....
That is the million dollar question, until ending whistle on Sunday!...
Trabzonspor could open the lead, if they beat Sivaspor at home on Sunday...
On the other hand Sivaspor, is not easy cookie that will roll over for Trabzon!..
They are in the race too..
After Istanbul Big guns, Galatasaray, fenerbahce, stall in Ankara on Saturday , this could be a huge opportunity for Trabzonspor open the gap at least between these two teams.
If Trabzonspor beats Sivaspor they will reach to 29 points while your Fenerbahce at 20 points and Galtasaray at 21 points!....
That is why, this match is like nine point match for Trabzonspor.....
But, If Sivaspor wins the match, that would be whole different ball game in the league!....
If Besiktas wins at home on Sunday, the gap will close and there will be only one points difference between Besiktas and Trabzonspor and Sivaspor will move in to third place in the league standings.......
And, Galatasaray , Fenerbahce will thank Sivaspor , stopping Trabzonspor!....
This, Week 12, still is huge as far as the out come of the results this weekend!..
This could be the turning point of the league, in the league in my opinion.....
A huge match between Trabzonspor and Sivaspor will decide a lot of things in the league if there is a winner in this match!....
A draw, will not be good for Trabzonspor.......
They must beat Sivasspor if they want to stay on top of the league...
Because, they will face a though Kayserispor in Kayseri next wekkend.....
The Saturday results in the league should motivate them more ...
Also on Sunday , Istanbul Buyuksehir will face Hacettepe in empty stadium
Umit Kayihan's Denizlispor will attack Bursaspor at home and the team who is trying to escape from mid charts Konyaspor will have a though test at home against Kayserispor.
The early matches on Sunday will start at 14:00 local Turkey time (07:00 ET)
Trabzonspor v Sivasspor match will start at 15:00 local Turkey time(08:00 ET) and Beiktas v Eskisehirspor match will start at 19:00 Local Turkey time(12:00 Noon,ET)

A BORING SATURDAY IN THE TURKISH SUPER LEAGUE!..............
Well, I was wrong!....
I thought , it would be huge Saturday in the TSL......
Neither , Fenerbahce and Galatasaray stepped-up and won their away match.
Instead of Galatasaray , Ankaraspor, after a draw captured the second place from Besiktas at least until Sunday.
There were four matches played on Saturday and out of those four matches three matches ended with nil nil score, accept Gaziantepspor scored two goals and beat Genclerbirligi at home 2-0.
This was bad football(soccer) what I witness on Saturday!...
It is shame we call this league Super league!.....
What is so Super about it?......................
This week ,could it have been, the turning point, for Galatasaray and Fenerbahce...
Instead, they played boring soccer!.....

A HUGE WEEKEND IN THE TURKCELL SUPER LEAGUE!..
Week 12, in the Turkcell Super league could be huge in my opinion!....
Here is why......................
There will be a lot of changes in top three ,if there is surprise scores!...
On Saturday, If Galatasaray and Fenerbahce wins their away matches in Ankara we could see Galatasaray and Fenerbahce on top four at the end of Saturday.
Fenerbahce in early match will play against Ankaragucu, the team who is desperate for points .....
On the other hand Fenerbahce with a win could bring their points to 22 points....
If Ankaragucu lose this match it would be disaster for them!....
Later on the night match Galatasaray will take on strong Ankara team Ankaraspor.
With a win,Galatasaray could surpass Ankaraspor and Besiktas in the standings and will capture the second place!....
There is if Galatasaray wins the match...
So, We could call this a huge Saturday in the league!...
I think , week 12th, will be turning point for a teams on top and bottom too.
Also on Saturday, Antalyaspor will host Kocaelispor ...
Antalyaspor with nine points and Kocaelispor with 5 points at the rock-bottom!..
Look for a surprise score here too!....
A win for Kocaelispor, will bring bottom three really close !.........
Another match on Saturday will be between Gaziantepspor and Genclerbirligi in Gaziantep.
COULD SIVASPOR AND BESIKTAS CLOSE THE GAP ON TOP?........

The top team of the Turkish Super League Trabzonspor will be tested again!...
This time at home against the team that is in fourth place with 21 points,Sivasspor.
Trabzonspor have 26 points......
Sivaspor is not the only team could close the gap .....
The second place team Besiktas who has 22 points could be the most beneficiary team of the week 12, if they beet Eskisheirspor at home!...
That is why Turkcell Super league week 12, matches, will be huge and will be deceive!...
The winners will gain a lot.....
In the other matches on Sunday, Istanbul Buyuksehir will host Hacettepe in empty Ataturk Stadium....
I bet you, you wont find 100 fans in this match!.....
We could witness a record in the Turkcell Super League if the weather is bad in Istanbul on Sunday...
I still don't understand why teams like Istanbul Butyuksehir and others who does not have a fan base could play in this league!....
Also on Sunday, Denizlispor will face Bursaspor in Denizli and Konyaspor will be at home against Kayserispor.
A win for both home teams , would mean moving- up in the standings!...
Week 12, in the Turkish Super League could be really crucial for a lot of teams!..
Like I said, Winners will smile all the way to the bank, losers will suffer big time!..
Look for, Sivaspor, Besiktas, Glatasaray and Fenerbahce to gain grounds in the league..
