GALATASARAY LOOKING FOR DRAW IN PORTUGAL AGAINST BENFICA!..

Galatasaray will play their second game against Portugal's Benfica in UEFA Cup group stage on Thursday and are seeking at least a draw in the away game to keep the lead in Group B, but without Harry Kewell.

"Best teams of Turkey and Portugal will take the field tomorrow and we have to get good results in such games to achieve our goals," Galatasaray President Adnan Polat told reporters in Portuguese capital Lisbon on Wednesday.

"A draw would not be a bad result," Polat said.

Asked about injuries that made things difficult for coach Michael Skibbe to name the squad, Polat said, "Galatasaray will have eleven players on the field. So, I do not think we have any missing players."

Coach Skibbe did not call Harry Kewell, Aydin Yilmaz, Mehmet Topal, Emre Gungor, Shabani Nonda and Tobias Linderoth to 18-man squad against Benfica due to their injuries.

Harry Kewell scored to lead Galatasaray to a 1-0 win over Greece's Olympiakos in their first group match

Arsenal To Face Fenerbahce Without Gallas, Walcott & Adebayor

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will be without captain William Gallas, Theo Walcott and Emmanuel Adebayor for their Champions League clash against Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

Defender Gallas (hamstring), winger Walcott (shoulder) and striker Adebayor (ankle), are currently injured.

However Bacary Sagna has recovered just in time for the clash after he was seen limping off at Stoke City at the weekend. However Emmanuel Eboue (knee) will continue to be out along with long-term absentees Eduardo (ankle) and Tomas Rosicky (hamstring).

Of those injured only Walcott could make a comeback against Manchester United at the weekend with Gallas too having fair amount of chance.

"[Walcott, Adebayor and Gallas] are all injured,” said Wenger at Tuesday’s press conference. “It is not more serious than that. Gallas and Walcott are short-term but Adebayor is a bit longer, Eboue as well.”

When questioned as to who could make a comeback for the crucial weekend clash with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, Wenger replied: “Gallas and especially Walcott.”

BESIKTAS GOES DOWN IN KAYSERI AND LOSES THE TOP SPOT

The only undefeated team in the Turkey's Turkcell Super League,Besiktas suffered its first loss this season in the Turkcell Super League, as it was beaten by Kayserispor with a late goal.

Turgay Bahadır struck on the 85th minute to knock Besiktas off the league lead and cost Besiktas the second and third place!..

As I warned in my Saturday's article, this was a must win match for Besiktas.

This up and down scene in the league will happened through out the year, in my opinion.

Besiktas's going down in Kayseri helped Ankaraspor and Trabzonspor jump to top two spots in the Turkcell Super League. With four consecutive wins, Ankaraspor looks as one of the best teams in the Turkcell Super League.

Ankaraspor continued its stunning streak with a 1-0 win at Bursaspor yesterday, to climb to the second spot.

An only goal by Mehmet Cakır, who scored his sixth so far this season, was enough to down Bursaspor and hand his team his fourth successive win, and sixth in last seven games.

Starting the league with two back-to-back losses, Ankaraspor at first seemed to be in the relegation battle, but with six wins and a draw in the following seven games put Ankaraspor fighting for the top instead.

Last weeekend's disapointement team Galatasaray this time was the only team from Istanbul won the match. Out of the three big guns of Turkish Football, Galatasaray was the only winner in the ninth week!...

Galatasaray beat Gaziantepspor at home 3-1. Harry Kewell, Lincoln and Arda scored for Galatasaray the Gaziantepsor goal came from Brazilian Tabata.

Here is the Result on Sunday in the Turkcell Super League.....

Bursaspor 0 - 1 Ankaraspor
Genclerbirligi 1 - 2 Antalyaspor
Kocaelispor 1 - 1 Ankaragucu
Sivasspor 3- 1 Denizlispor
Kayserispor 1 - 0 Besiktas
Galatasaray 3 - 1 Gaziantepspor

In the other day match, Konyaspor won against Hacettepespor in away match in Ankara with the score of 2-1.

Saturday's last match played in Eskisehir under the lights and Fenerbahce could not beat ten men Eskisehirspor.Fenerbahce draw Eskisehirspor in Eskisehir 2-2.

The Newcomers of the league, Eskisehirspor after beating Galatasaray, they could easily beat Fenerbahce too!..

But, Yula, was not good with his delivery Today!....

He missed a couple of good chances in the match,,,,

Mistakes by Fenerbahce defense cost the match for Fenerbahce...

There were no communications between Keeper Volkan Demirel and Fenerbahce defense.

I think Fenerbahce was lucky side , in this match, in my opinion!.......

Spanish International Player Guiza, missed a lot of chances in this match too.

Alex scored both of the Fenerbahce goals. He scored the second goal on penalty kick.

Eskisehispor Keeper Ivesa saw a red card after tripping Fenerbahce captain Alex in the box.

At the end of the Saturday, Fenerbahce with 13 points at the 10th place and 11th place Eskisehirspor end up with 13 points too!...

Konyaspor after a win, moved ahead of Fenerbahce and moved to 9th place with 14 points.

Trabzonspor captured the top spot with 18 points...

FIFA.COM: "The Black Eagles of the Bosporus"

Here is a nice article about Besiktas puplish on Fifa's web site.

The Black Eagles of the Bosporus

Besiktas, the oldest sports club in Turkey, traces its origins to the autumn of 1902, when a group of 22 young men began gathering for physical exercise on certain days of the week in the Istanbul suburb which gives the club its name. Football was not part of the equation to start with. The young men kept their bodies and souls in shape through gymnastics, wrestling and weight-lifting.

In spite of a general ban on sports clubs and severe restrictions on freedom of association under Sultan Abdulhamit the Second, Besiktas Jimnastik Kulübü - Besiktas Gymnastics Club – was officially founded under a special permit just a year later. The membership roll increased dramatically and rapidly, until the club was officially re-founded on 13 January 1910 as Besiktas Osmanli Jimnastik Kulubü on the repeal of the laws prohibiting clubs.

A few months later, football clubs Validecesme and Basiret merged with Besiktas, making football the most important discipline at the club in just a few short weeks. A curiosity dating from the early years is that Besiktas, as the only sports club in the country at the time, occasionally played as the Turkish national team, and are thus the only club to incorporate the national flag on their emblem.

The history of the Black Eagles
In the 1940s, Besiktas dominated the Turkish footballing scene. After back-to-back domestic league triumphs at the beginning of the decade, the club went into the 1940-41 campaign with a largely new and young team. The brilliantly skilled men in black and white were to become legends that year, after a series of breathtaking displays which also earned them their nickname, the Black Eagles.

The term first came into use on 19 January 1941, as the men from Istanbul took on Suleymaniye and ran up a crushing 6-0 victory. Midway through the second half, a fisherman by the name of Mehmet Galin struck up a previously unheard chant, which – so the legend goes – was rapidly taken up by the entire stadium. "Come on Black Eagles, attack Black Eagles!" was the cry from thousands of throats, and Besiktas had the nickname that persists to this day.

Success in the 90s
The period from 1957 to 1986 brought seven title triumphs, but that was merely the prelude to the 1990s, the truly golden age in Besiktas’ history. Under English coach Gordon Milne, the oldest club in Turkey recorded a title hat-trick from 1990 to 1992. Milne’s team featured an attacking trio of Metin Tekin, Ali Gultiken and Feyyaz Ucar, still considered by fans as the best forward line ever to represent the club.

The 1991-2 campaign brought not only the title but also a record, as Besiktas became the only club to win the Turkish championship without losing a match. Other records include a 10-0 victory over Adana Demirspor in 1989-90, the biggest margin of victory in Turkish league history, a run of 48 consecutive league matches without defeat, and a 13-game winning streak in the 1959-60 season. The same campaign brought a record total of 29 league wins.

Recent times
Compared to the glories of the past, Besiktas’ recent record in the Turkish championship has been patchy. Their twelfth and most recent Super Lig title came in 2003. This was followed by domestic knockout cup success in 2006 and 2007, but the championship trophy proved elusive. However, the current team under new coach Mustafa Denizli is undefeated so far this term and tops the Turkish standings eight games into the campaign.

Stadium
Besiktas’ home ground is the BJK Inonu stadium, located in the suburb of Besiktas and boasting a panoramic view over the Bosporus. The Black Eagles moved into their newly-constructed home in 1947, when the stadium was named after the second president of the Republic of Turkey, Ismet Inonu. The most recent renovation took place four years ago, with the removal of the running track and lowering of the pitch. The only stadium in the world offering a view of two continents (Europe and Asia) currently boasts a capacity of 32,086.
